A few weeks ago our story of becoming refugee foster parents was featured on Glamour.com. It was exciting to see our story shared on such a popular platform with the hope that it might inspire others to volunteer with or foster refugees. I was overwhelmed by the positive support received from friends and family- it was very special when people reached out and shared words of encouragement.
When I read the article and saw the words "unique path to motherhood" it really sunk in that I'm a soon to be mother of a child or youth. Is it odd that I hadn't really thought of it as motherhood prior to this article? I've always talked about fostering as growing our family and when I read the word "motherhood," the reality of it all truly sunk in; I'm about to be a mother to a refugee child (cue excitement, nervousness, shock). How did this feature come about? It happened very quickly- an old college sorority sister read our blog, asked if she could interview me, and the next day our story was online. (We checked with our foster care licensor first to make sure it was alright to share on a very public platform.)
Of course, David wouldn't let the 15 minutes of internet fame go to my head, and instead sent me the below screenshot of our story being less important than curing butt acne. So, there's that....
